Who has been to the United States capital, Washington D.C.? I myself haven't quite got a chance to get over there yet but I really want to go. My friend went last summer and said it was really nice :)

I spent one day in Washington DC and the entire trip was focused on the campus of Howard University, which was fun and glorious in and of itself but I would not consider it a true trip to DC. I also rode the subway from the airport to the university so you can always get somewhat of a beat of the people and the culture. I guess that the city girl in me, "just hop on the train, no big deal." Everyone needs at least one tourist day to visit the museums and monuments and such.

About 10 years ago, while visiting some friends in Maryland, we drove around in the rain in DC. I saw the White house, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials. Does this count as one true trip?

I don't think I have given the city justice. I plan to go back soon and do the tourist runs.

I've never been to Washington D.C., but I would probably like to go some time, haha. I know a couple of people living there at the moment (that moved there).

I've never been to Washington DC. Never really cared of it either.

This. Other than a few monuments, what is there to do in DC =p? I'm curious to know!

I was just thinking about this. I've rarely been out of my home state, but when I finally do go out to discover my country, the first place will be Washington D.C. I want to start at the heart of the nation, and then travel out through its veins to all the other places.

No, but both my sisters went when they were 10. They got to see the White House and other famous places. I'd love to go to DC one day, I think I would especially like the nature in DC. There are lots of pretty forests and i think it would be fun to hike through them. I'd visit monuments too but I imagine I would have more fun hiking, lol.

I've been to Washington D.C. 3-4 times. I think everyone should visit it. It's always fun going to the congress and looking at other monuments. Also the area has some great museums to check out.

My husband and I have attended several conventions in Washington, D. C. My favorite memories of D. C. include the deep snowfalls. One year when we arrived, they already had a foot of snow and they got another foot while we were there. For a girl from the South, who rarely sees more than an inch or two during the year, that snowfall was like being in Fantasyland! We could see a neighborhood street from our hotel window and the cars parked along both sides of the street were completely buried in snow after the snowplow went through. Cab fare was triple the normal rate. We had a great time. As for sights, through the years my favorites are the Smithsonian Institution (I could spend months in there) and the tomb of the unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. As for eating, D. C. has my all time favorite restaurant, City Lights of China. Yum, wish I were there right now.

I currently live an hour south of DC and have visited a few times. My brother-in-law currently lives there and can see the Washington Memorial from his house.

To be honest, if you're not a big fan of museums, monuments, and/or history, there isn't much to do during the day on the main section at least. There is a Zoo, also an aquarium I believe. Most everything is oriented towards the monuments and museums. There is night life if that is something you're into but you'd have to look up specifically what it is you're into before I go giving any advice on that.

Overall, I don't really like DC, too crowded, too hard to move around, and not worth all the hassle. I do recommend everyone doing it once in their life to say they visited and saw the important places/things, but other than that, it's not too great.
  12. I live in Springfield, Virginia, a city about 20 minutes away from Washington D.C. Of course, having lived here for 4 1/2 years, I've visited about 20 times. I find the place to be quite fun with museums and landmarks.

I have a few times and I really like it. It sort of feels like a different world the first time you go. It is a really clean city, but if you step down the wrong alley then it becomes a real messy situation.

I live outside of the City. One person asked what is there to do in the city, the question should be what should I do first. There is more than the museums to see. There is history that has been preserved to visit and imagine what it was look back in the day.

It is a very beautiful city, and fairly clean compared to some other cities.

The food is awesome, during the summer we have a Taste of DC where alot of restaurants showcase their food along with music on the Mall or Freedom Plaza which is downtown.

To see Washington DC you need more than a day must likely more than a week.

I've been although it was a very long time ago. I went to the Smithsonian, as well as the Monument, and other areas. I know that my friend who I went to see, once we drove away from the downtown core, I saw a lot of grimy areas. That part was sad to see. I had also been told that behind the White House that it is very dirty, and that the front is done for cameras and the press.

I visited Washington DC but it was a long time ago. It was a school trip so I know we visited many different places on our trip, but I honestly do not remember all the places we went. I would like to take my kids there to visit soon. I am sure they will have fun!
