One of the things I love doing when I visit a new city is check out their zoo. I'm a big animal fan and even though many of the animals will always be the same across the map, it's a great leisurely activity to do with friends or family in the area. I've even used it as "first date" activities or a place to go with people I'm meeting up with that I've only ever talked to online because when conversation wanes, there's always something to talk about with the animals in front of you. Because of that, I've been to at least a dozen different zoos, and then several aquariums or animal museums and related events. Of the places you've been, which zoo do you think is the best? Is it because it's huge and has lots of animals, just a specific one, the staff is friendly, or something else?
The San Diego zoo is amazing. The place is absolutely huge and there is so much to see and do. It really is an all day event. There's a fun little zoo in Santa Ana, CA that only costs 3 bucks and is great for kids. It's primarily monkeys, so you spend the entire day laughing at their antics. There isn't much to do, but it's a great way to kill a few hours on a weekend. I think my favorite zoo had to be in Prague. It was huge with all sorts of unique exhibits and really exotic animals. Great place and the food there was top notch!
I am going to say Brookfield Zoo, in Chicago. Because I went there all the time when I was a kid. I used to love that place. They had the largest selection of animals, and always had lots of new exhibits. I also enjoyed the Dolphin Show there. It was always a good time, and I have only very fond memories of it. Even when I went with Day camp, it was a good time.
No doubt. We made the mistake of trying to "fit it in" before our flight that afternoon. We basically had 4-5 hours and we flew through the zoo. We decided to focus on our favorite animals we didn't feel disappointed by seeing certain exhibits, but even with several hours like that of rushing around, we still didn't see even half the zoo, I don't think. There are just so many exhibits! I think that would be great for younger kids especially. Taking them to something like the San Diego zoo would be overwhelming. Kids get tired fast and really, they're just as happy seeing a few animals as they are with seeing a bunch, I think, so spending a few bucks for a few hours of fun sounds perfect to me.
The San Diego Zoo is one of the best zoos (if not the best) in the world! It is an amazing zoo with lots of room and exhibits.
Definitely Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. I basically grew up in that city, and I would go there every so often. I remember always trying to see if the lion was ever awake, but it just so happens that he's always asleep during zoo hours. Ha ha.
We really enjoyed the San Diego Zoo. It has probably been about 25 to 27 years since we have been there but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The San Diego Zoo was so huge. We had a hard time seeing everything. It was nothing like the Milwaukee Zoo which is what I am used to. My kids and I have been to the Milwaukee Zoo a million times since it is in our home town. It is very easy to see everything in one day. The San Diego Zoo is so much nicer. I would love to take my kids and granddaughter there sometime. They have never been there and I think that they will like it too.
The St. Louis zoo is very nice possibly one of the best in the world. I have heard though that the San Diego zoo has everything you could ever hope to see in a zoo. It is huge and loaded with different and rare animals.
I must say that the Bronx Zoo is awesome. Buffalo apparently has an awesome zoo too also that I've been too. Basically, all the good zoos are in upstate New York. It's been a while since I've been there so hopefully they haven't changed. I highly recommend them if you're ever near there!
I would have to say Philadelphia Zoo is the best out of the ones I have been too. It is quite big, you may not be able to do it all in one day unless you walk through quick. They have a nice selection of animals and even have some rides and activities for kids. While you are in the area (if you allow an extra day), you can cross the bridge into Camden, NJ to visit the State Aquarium and walk through the shark tunnel Both the aquarium and the zoo offer a wide variety of animals.
The San Diego Zoo is really great, and I see others agree with me. Another poster mentioned the St. Louis Zoo, which I always loved, probably because I grew up going to it. Plus it's free! Or at least it was still free the last time I was there.
Oh right, I forgot about that part! You have to pay for other things like parking, the special zoo/exhibits inside like the children's petting zoo and such, I think, but entry into the main park is free and there's plenty to see. I love it.
The zoo in Washington, DC is very nice. It is well kept and very large. I have gone to the zoo often with my grandchildren and their classes. We use to look at a cartoon that had an animal that I had not seen before we visited the zoo. Baltimore is short trip down the highway. There is a large aquarium that is fun to visit also.
Please. There is no discussion. The Bronx zoo is the best in the world! OK, I may be slightly biased being from the greatest borough in the history of the universe, Da Bronx, but I still think I'm being completely, utterly, absolutely, unbiased in my highly emotional opinion based on disregarding any facts that may tend to disprove my own opinions.
Lol!! Okay, so tell me Seahunter, what's so great about the zoo there? I can't really even recall ever hearing much about it, so you're going to have some convincing to do. Bonus points for a phenomenal picture.
Little video log of a visit to the Bronx Zoo courtesy of YouTube. OK, OK, I guess it's the best in the to me anyway. Just childhood memories of going there with mom & dad and on school trips.
