Auburn, Oregon, USC, Ohio State...more to come. What does the NCAA do? Nothing. Why? Money money money! Who's going to clean house?
The NCAA has a monopoly on college sports, specifically football and basketball. The answer lies in competition. The NCAA needs another entity, most likely a privately funded organization to scare the bejesus out of it. Keep in mind that major league baseball has a farm system, while the NFL and NBA rely on the NCAA to develop talent. Imagine if Donald Trump came along and funded a semi-pro league where kids out of high school can develop their skills in football and basketball! In terms of corruption...hmm maybe the folks in Washington D.C.?
Check out the Ed O'Bannon's lawsuit against NCAA. The godfather of basketball Sonny Vacarro is leading the push against the NCAA class action lawsuit. Sonny's known for signing Micheal Jordan to the biggest Nike shoe contract that forever changes the face of college basketball, sponsorships, and marketing. Now retired, Sonny's fighting for the players rights. That they should get royalties for replaying their basketball highlights on TV. That NCAA should pay out players every time the NCAA replays highlights or classical basketball films. The former UCLA standout, now a car sales man in Las Vegas was the first to participate as a plaintiff against the NCAA. So the question is, "do you think that these players should be paid out a percentage if their basketball skills are show cased time and time again?" It is similar to playing old classic movies. The actors and actresses are paid a cut for re runs. Sonny Vacarro wants the same opportunity for players. He believes the NCAA needs to work on a pay out system for former college basketball athletes. Any thoughts?
