A big topic amongst me and my friends is where we want to move when we get older. I've always wanted to leave the East Coast and move out West somewhere such as Washington, Colorado, Wyoming. So my question is what state do you live in and if you could move to any other state which one would it be and why?

I live in Tennessee and I highly recommend my state as your retirement home. I can't even imagine wanting to move to another state and I've visited quite a few. So I will tell you why I want to stay here. I love the scenery and seasons. We have it all. We usually get a little snow during the winter, but not enough to cause a hardship. I don't like cold weather and many of our winter days are even springlike, sprinkled in with the cold ones. I also love the hills and mountains of Tennessee. When I go to a flat state, the scenery is so boring. Every place looks the same. We have everything you need here, theaters, theme parks (Dollywood and a new one coming to Nashville), music galore of all genres, shopping, hunting, fishing, even snow skiing in Gatlinburg. I understand some of the people who have moved to Florida for retirement are switching to Tennessee because they can live here cheaper. I could go on and on.

I would recommend any state in the south! The south is full or friendly people and is a great place for a family or to retire. There is great weather, and even better food. I live in the south and believe it is the best place to live!

I like to live anywhere that has nice weather. By nice weather I mean warm weather. So, that leaves California or Florida, although I wouldn't mind living in the Caribbean as well. I am just a laid back gal looking for a laid back lifestyle.

I'm not sure really. I've lived in or visited several states already and while I enjoyed most of them, I don't think I want to go back and live in any of them again. I haven't spent much time out West yet, so I think that would be a great start for finding a new state home. Maybe something like California or Washington? I wouldn't mind being a little more inland, though.

I'd really love to live in California. The beach is great, the people are great, I love the culture (mixing pot) in california in general. Filipinos, Mexicans, Asians, and I think that it's a decent place to live in. You never know til you know, right? But everytime I go there, I don't want to come back anymore.

    Plus, In-N-Out.. come on!

Washington State. Never been there but it always looks so nice in pictures.

I would love to live up north somewhere. I love Kansas and all, but I hate when it's really hot and humid which is all summer long :( And I always got jealous when my boss talked about her childhood in Minnesota when her dad would flood the backyard and they'd have their own skating rink! lol

I dont mind living in New York, but if I was to move somewhere I would want it to be somewhere that was like 50-70 year round. I don't like it cold but I also can't stand it too warm.

Washington IS an awesome place to live! I get the greatest view of Mt. Rainier on my drive to work every single day. I really don't know how it could be better... Maybe a couple more months of hot weather??

I would actually like to live somewhere in south Florida. I'm living in TN right now, and the climate around here is too harsh. Ive been there a few times over the years and I enjoyed it every time. Also, I love the warm weather down there.

I live in Southern California. I don't want to live in any other state, but I would love to move to North Calif. I have lived in a few other states and I like here best.

I would love to live in Alaska. The cold helps me sleep better, and like a vampire I am attracted to night. Wait, twilight ruined vampires... I retract my statement.
But in all honesty, though - I think Alaska has some of the best nature scenes of any of the states. I am not too certain of this, but I believe Alaska isn't so developed, so nature is still dominant.

I would love to live in a log cabin in the mountains of North Carolina! I have been there several times and have experienced both Summer and Winter. It is beautiful and serene, and the people seem genuine and friendly. I like that they have 4 seasons, and I have heard that it is a must to travel there in the fall to see the changing of the leaves.

I think more about cities. I picked Illinois because that is where I have lived all my life and that is where Chicago is but someone else may pick Illinois because they love small towns surrounded by cornfields, same state but very different lifestyles, a perfect case in point why saying which state one prefer doesn't necessarily tell you much about them. I also hate hate hate the Red State/Blue State BS as if all people who live in a given state have the same political views, even large cities that vote mostly democratic are very complex in people's political beliefs from one neighborhood to the next.

So my ranking if we only go by states (which are highly influenced by cities in them I like):

1.Illinois (Chicago, other parts of state interesting to visit though)
2.New York (New York City, upstate has really nice natural beauty as well)
3.California (Los Angeles, San Francisco, natural attractions)
4.Colorado (Denver and the fact the city is so near great natural attractions)
5.Indiana (NW Indiana near Chicago, think Indiana Dunes or a pleasant town like Whiting)

I live in Tennessee now, and in the past I have gown up in Kentucky. These are both wonderful states, great people and true family states. But everytime we go on vacation to Florida, I always want to go back or move to Florida. I love the beaches, the sand, warm weather and all the fun stuff they are to do there.

Nevada for me. Las Vegas to be exact. I posted on another topic, but I went for my wedding and loved it. Laid back in some areas and completely crazy in others. It really has almost everything you could ever want.
  19. If I were to live in any state, I would live in California. They have all kids of terrain there: forests, jungles, beaches, snowy mountains, deserts, hills, canyons, plains, farms, etc. It all comes together. In my state of Virginia, we have hills, mountains, and beaches. That's about it. And obviously, when it snows, you can call it a "snowy terrain".

I would look into Texas. I love the fact that they are a no federal income tax state. I'm sure it would save me tons of money to buy other things that I like, but I'm also a hot weather type of person. I hate the cold!
