It seems like Paris and London are the 2 MUST-GO-TO places that can be found in Europe. Paris has the Eiffel Tower, London has the Big Ben. Paris has bagettes, London has their tea. Paris has the Louvre Museum, London has the Buckingham Palace.

Have you been to any of these 2 cities? Which one did you like the most? If you haven't, and could only pick one, which one would it be?

    I'm from Paris.
    So Paris, of course!
These two cities are beautiful. Lots of wonderful places, museums and monuments to visit.
I think Paris is a lot more romantic than London though.

I live not far from London, While it is an amazing city, It has to be Paris. I maybe biased though, I have a love for everything French. The food, the culture, the language, and who could forget the women ;)

Paris! I went with friends some years back, and I fell in love with the city. It's the most romantic city I've traveled to. The architecture and culture is rich with history, and quite amazing. The Louvre Museum is spectacular. I took at least 100 pictures of the sculptures, such as, The Venice De Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace, and the Whisler's Mother. Even if your not an art buff you'll thoroughly enjoy it just looking at the traditional French architecture since the Renaissance period. I'm jealous of Chiller for being from there! :p

I have only been to London and it was amazing. I absolutely loved my time there. I have a feeling I would enjoy Paris even more, although seeing as how I don't speak even a hint of French, I think I'd have a harder time feeling as home there, too, whereas in London, it was magnificent...but didn't feel foreign either. My favorite part actually wasn't Buckingham Palace or Big Ben either one, though. The London Eye, right at sunset....that's what captured my heart for the whole trip. <3

Haha, hard question. I have been to both places, and I find both cities very nice. London has an advantage, because everyone can speak English there, but Paris has much more interesting places to go to in my opinion. You should visit London AND Paris if you can :)

But Europe is more than just London and Paris. Berlin is a very awesome place, with lots of historical buildings (Berlin wall!) and a nice night life. And Rome is worth a visit too!

I've been to both, but in my opinion I would say London , simply because it's a big place and a real nice place, I was there last month to see a concert in Shepherds Bush and appsolutly loved it

It depend what you are looking for. I went to paris 3 years ago with my girlfriend, and we both loved it! its so romantic, and the plus is that you have TOO MANY places to visits, you wont get bored. If you visit paris please come back and give us your input :)

I love Paris. It's a very, very rich city in itself. Just don't go to the outskirts of Paris, it's not as beautiful as the city center. But nevertheless, the city center itself is such an eyesight. It's a lot to take in.

I was dreaming to go to Paris from when I was 7 ... finally, after 17 years, I lived my dream. I bough a french hat and I wandered on the street of Paris for days ... everything is amazing in this city. If you choose Paris, take your time there (minimum 5-6 days). You have a lot of places to visit. If you will have a guide, will be perfect. Don't miss the Eiffel tour view from night ; it's an unique feeling you will have. Louvre museum is full of energies, take you time to visit all the masterpieces.

London instead, is much more cleaner, more hi-tech if I can say it like this, don't miss the fish and chips meals, and prepare some money for vintage accessories. You will find plenty of those. The night life is also very appealing in London, if you are interested in this. Also, English language is a plus there, but for me was easy in Paris as well, because I speak also french :D

As Seurant mentioned earlier, If you have to visit both cities, go for both. There are both amazing and unique places to go !

I've lived in London and visited Paris a couple of times. On balance I prefer London, but that's because I like edgy rather than romantic! Paris is beautiful and elegant, but I think of London as more vibrant and cool. You can't beat London's music scene.

They are both great cities in many ways, but I'm going to take the liberty to object to them being the top two must-go-to places in Europe. A lot of people visiting Paris get disappointed. In fact, so many get so disappointed there's a syndrome named after it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paris_syndrome It almost never meets anyone's expectations. London has a lot to offer, but is such a big international metropol it's hard to discover what's really London and what could have been every place else. If you have the right expectations to Paris and know where to go in London, they can both be fantastic cities, but here's my personal top 3 must-go-to cities in Europe:

    Athens:
Presumably you are of European descent and as such your culture and almost everything you know can be traced back to Athens 2000 years ago. They are struggling financially right now, but as a tourist that usually works to your advantage. As a historical site it is second to none, they have a great nightlife, numerous beautiful islands just a short ferry trip away and some of the friendliest people I have met. I was once told that to know who you are, you have to know where you come from. And most of us come from classical Greece, historically and philosophically speaking.

    Barcelona:
Barcelona would be my second choice. The city is rich in everything. History, culture, parties, night life, food, people. It's the most diverse city in Europe, possibly rivaled by London but in a much more harmonic and concentrated way. It's near the French borders and an old port with influences from most of Europe and even some from old arabic cultures. Almost like the New York of Europe only with far far older history.

    Rome:
I consider this an "Athens light". They took most of what the Athenians did and improved some, but corrupted most. It's still on my "must visit" list even if I have already been there. The first day I was there, I went to the colliseum and had vivid visions of gladiators and bloodthirsty crowds chanting for blood. The next day I went to a soccer game and realised not much had changed. Italian food needs no introduction and many of the historical sites will already be familiar to you. Visiting them in real life made quite an impact on me. I see you mention the Louvre so I can only assume you are interested in art. As a former art student, I dare say you haven't seen art before you have been to the Sistine Chapel and the vatican museum.

I didn't mean to put you off Paris or London with my post, just to hopefully turn you on to my favourite cities. I have lived 2 years in Barcelona and 6 months in Athens, so I might be somewhat biased.
  13. I like Paris more. On the whole better weather and much prefer the Eiffel Tower to the Palaces of Westminster. Both are great cities of course.

I remember growing up with the impression that Paris was this wonderful, romantic city (due to the media). The first time I visited, it was a cloudy day and I remember thinking to myself, "This is it? What's so special about Paris?" You could almost say I was pretty disappointed.

I never knew there was such a thing as the Paris Syndrome, but having been through it (somewhat), I see how it can be possible. This is a very fascinating concept. Thanks for sharing M Gabriel.

On the positive, I stayed in Paris for several days, and the city gradually began to grow on me. I loved the pace of life, and rarely did I pay attention to what time of day it was. In America, you follow the clock pretty closely. I also liked how people would come home from work, take a nap, and then go out to restaurants. The tomato and mozzarella cheese baguettes that you buy on the streets are delicious and healthy. The crepes with Nutella were yummy! On my last day there, I woke up early and went to the cafe. There was this cat that walked into the restaurant and jumped up on the table and curled up. No one batted an eye. Can you imagine this happening at Starbucks? I ate pastries with jelly for breakfast. I remember watching people in front of the cafe sit with their backs against it so they could watch passerby. The sun was shining. It was beautiful and peaceful. This will be the Paris that I remember.

Oh and watch out for gypsies! But that's another story... :)

Paris is beautiful but I prefer London. Even the street names are a testament to it's thousands of years of history. Nowhere has an atmosphere like it. I was a born romantic and going to Paris is one of my wildest dream. It's just looks enchanting and magical. If I will have a weekend travel with my boyfriend, I'll choose Paris but if I'll be with my family, I'll choose London.

London for me too. I like to sit on the top deck of a bus travelling round London as you can see what the buildings were like before the shops took over. (I was born and bought up in East London).

Apologies to anyone from Paris but I have found waiters, shop workers etc very rude. I love the history and sites but not the people.

My favourite though is Rome. If I could afford to emigrate that's where I'd move to.

The closest I've been to Paris was a French restaurant in Epcot Center at Walt Disney World. I do think either Paris or London would be amazing cities to visit, each with its own attractions, rich history, and ambiance. But because of the romance factor that I've heard about all my life, I would have to pick Paris if I could only choose one. The French have a reputation of loving the finer things of life. Paris is known for its food and high fashion, so I could eat and shop 'til I drop! And just like any other wide-eyed tourist, I would love to see the Eiffel Tower and listen to a lot of people with that romantic French accent.

Try visiting both man. Tough question to answer! Both cities are absolutely amazing, elegant and has so many things to offer. So I recommend you go visit London and Paris. I wish I was you. Haha.
  19. I've visited both, and love both cities, but I come from the UK, and I love history, so London wins for me every time, although I'm pretty knowledgeable about French history, and I can speak French fluently. I firmly believe we should all learn as much about our roots as we can, as well as exploring other countries and cultures. I've been to London several times, and I discover new delights each time I visit.

I think London is much better.
I heard bad things about Paris, like people that aren't polite, and things related to this.
London is my dream city, also, the football there is good, so if you are a sports fan, you should go there.
