    So if you are an Executive for a professional sports team, what marketing ideas would you implement to generate a fan base and revenue?

    Don't most sport teams already have strong followings already?

    You always have your home town as fans.
    Asides from that, I would get into the social media sphere. Get a website, Facebook, Twitter for star players/the team, the whole nine yards. Pardon the pun.

    Not necessarily. That's why you have marketing and ticket sales staff. If you look at fan attendence for pro basketball it varies between 75 to 100.5% attendance. How do you market a crappy team? Better yet, how do you market a Kings team down south with 2 prolific teams such as Clippers and Lakers in the area?

    Good start, I believe that social media is a great way to bring in more fans. But how can you possible sell a clever idea?

    I asked this question because of a school project that I'm working on. I am making a hypothetical guess that Kings will go to Anaheim. I'm looking to increase fan awareness of the team in Anaheim.

    Oh okay. So you're trying to market a team in a different city other than their hometown?

    Exactly=)

    You'll obviously be facing stiff competition from the home team, for sure.

    Asides from that, sell merchandise at the event and try to make promotion deals with local TV stations or sports networks promoting the game. And the social network scene, of course.

    That's all I can think of at the moment, best of luck.

    I'd leverage social media for sure. If done right it allows you to effectively scale up your efforts. Mark Cuban was great at this. When he first took over the Dallas Mavericks, he personally responded to fan emails and would incorporate their feedback. Plus, he regularly blogs. He's a man of the people and it shows in all facets of his business.
