So I got hooked on Jersey Shore, the tv show. Snooki and them are a blast to watch. It seems like they party, hang out at the beach, and go clubbing all the time. There also seems to be a lot of Italian people in the area.

Does the show accurately reflect what it's like to live over there?

Not much Italians. Though there is a lot of clubbing, hanging out (boring stuff though), parties, lots of drug-use, dramatic people, emo people, etc.

I was actually thinking the same thing when I saw this forum. Right now, NJ isn't being represented very well in the media -- you immediately think of Jersey Shore, but there's also Real Housewives..

I think just like any other show, it exaggerates things for the attention. So no, the whole state isn't like that, definitely not. Are some of the cities full of young people clubbing and goofing off on the beach all the time? Sure. Do some of them dress ridiculous or have insanely thick Italian accents and culture? Sure. It doesn't represent everything as a whole, though, no.

New Jersey is nothing like Jersey Shore as far as I've seen. Sure some people might be like them, but they are the exception, not the rule. As someone said, they over-exaggerate for the cameras. I'm told that Snooki isn't even an Italian American, she's originally from South America (Chile, I believe) but was adopted by an Italian American family. New Jersey is fairly diverse. There are high income neighborhoods with mansions where celebrities live, and there are low income neighborhoods that scare the crap out of me, LOL. But generally, New Jersey has a suburban feel to it. There are even farmlands and rural areas as well.

There is a lot of douchebags like those on Jersey Shore; but that is NJ/NY/CT/RI/PA kids that think they are cool and tough. Most people are not a bunch of wannabe morons and I know a solid amount of people that despise those jackasses.

Gosh, I hope not. But I'm also wondering about this as well. I see in a lot of show people always bash on people form New Jersey. Shows like How I Met Your Mother and South Park.

New Jersey is really nothing like Jersey Shore. I have not really watched Jersey Shore but have heard a lot about it. I live in NJ and it has a lot of great places and yet some places can be boring too. Seaside Heights (I believe this is the beach they used to film) is known for it's issue to the local people. It can be a nice place to visit with a boardwalk, rides and some good food. Most of NJ is not at all like that, there is a little bit of everything here. Our variety includes things such as nature hikes in the mountains to gambling in casinos in Atlantic City.

The central part of new jersey is really nothing like jersey shore mainly because there is no shore in the part of jersey in which I lived in. There is a lot of clubbing, but needless to say, there's probably a lot of clubbing in almost every state ! I enjoy the calm, scenic aspect of new jersey. New Jersey isn't really what jersey shore portrays it to be in my opinion.
  11. I don't even think Jersey Shore takes place in New Jersey. I thought it was just a name. But, that's my opinion. Don't mess with my opinion, please.

The Jersey Shore is the shore and beaches of New Jersey. The show is called Jersey Shore because that is where they stay.

It started out at Seaside which is on the Jersey shore. It is a nice place (kind of, it has it's issues) to go if you like the boardwalk, good "beach food" and the ocean.

From what I understand, they did film a season in Miami and I think another location too. It did start in New Jersey though.
